What is cognitive behavioral therapy?

In a nutshell, cognitive behavioral therapy (or CBT) is a therapy that focuses on the connection between our thoughts, feelings, and actions. CBT aims to help clients by assisting them with changing negative thought patterns to create different behaviors in response to emotions. Dialetical behavioral therapy (or DBT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (or ACT) are both derived from cognitive behavioral therapy. DBT puts emphasis on emotional regulation and interpersonal skill development, while ACT puts emphasis on acceptance of the present moment and creation of actionable responses to emotions that put the client in line with their overall values.

What is mindfulness?

Mindfulness practice involves being as present as possible with each moment of our daily living in order to enhance the overall experience of living. Mindfulness teaches the client to experience their emotions without judgment to assist with self acceptance and stress reduction. Common mindfulness techniques include but are not limited to meditation, yoga, and deep breathing.

What is Gottman therapy?

The Gottman method is an approach to relational therapy which focuses on building communication and intimacy while increasing respect, empathy, and compassion. Gottman method couple’s therapy seeks to help couples build a solid foundation within their relationship that they can continue to grow from over time.
